Biography
Elisabeth Breuer has firmly established herself on the international stage with a versatile repertoire, performing at some of the world’s most renowned concert halls and festivals. In addition to her intensive concert career, the Austrian soprano is passionate about opera, where she enjoys showcasing her versatility and acting talent.
Recent operatic engagements include appearances as Valencienne (The Merry Widow) at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Angelica (Orlando) at the Frankfurt Opera, and Elisa (Il re pastore) at Teatro La Fenice in Venice. She also performed Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno in concert versions in Switzerland and Belgium with the ensemble Les Passions de l’Âme.

Her first permanent engagement brought her to the Landestheater Linz, where she was a member of the company from 2009 to 2016 and performed numerous leading roles in her repertoire, including Norina (Don Pasquale), Musetta (La Bohème), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Despina (Così fan tutte), Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites), and Adele (Die Fledermaus).
Other operatic highlights in recent seasons include Rezia in Haydn’s L’incontro improvviso at the Donaufestwochen, Hyppolithe in Schürmann’s Die getreue Alceste at Winter in Schwetzingen under Christina Pluhar, and Eurilla in Vivaldi’s La Ninfa e il Pastore at Festival Opera Barga under Federico Maria Sardelli.
She has also appeared as Christel (Der Vogelhändler) at Cologne Opera, as Donna Fulvia (La pietra di paragone by Rossini) at Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, in Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, and as Papagena at Teatro Regio di Torino under Asher Fisch and at Musiktheater Linz under Franz Welser-Möst.
On the concert stage, Elisabeth Breuer has performed Mendelssohn’s Paulus with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Brahms’ German Requiem at the Vienna Musikverein, and Haydn’s Creation with the MDR Symphony Orchestra.
A sought-after interpreter of Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor, she has sung this work with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Harding, the NDR Radiophilharmonie under Andrew Manze, the MDR Symphony Orchestra under Risto Joost, at the Herrenchiemsee Festival under Kent Nagano, and in Israel under Philippe Herreweghe.
She sang Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony under Emmanuel Tjeknavorian at the KKL Lucerne, the St. John Passion with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, and the St. Matthew Passion under Hansjörg Albrecht at the Isarphilharmonie in Munich.
Other performances include Handel’s La Resurrezione with La Folia Baroque Orchestra, Beethoven’s Egmont with the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, and Orff’s Carmina Burana at the Vienna Konzerthaus. She has also performed with the RIAS Chamber Choir and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin under Justin Doyle at the Seoul Arts Center in South Korea and has been a frequent guest at the popular “Wintermärchen” concerts in Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie.
She maintains a close artistic collaboration with leading specialists in historically informed performance, including Reinhard Goebel, Ton Koopman, and Hans-Christoph Rademann.

The 2025/26 season promises numerous artistic highlights and a wide stylistic range. It begins with the Da Vinci Requiem by Cecilia McDowall and works by Felix Mendelssohn at the Maulbronn Monastery Concerts. She will also appear in Orff’s Carmina Burana under Pinchas Steinberg in Monreale with the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana and in Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Michael Laus.
She will perform Bach’s Mass in B Minor in Hamburg with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin conducted by Jörg Endebrock and cantatas at the Munich Bach Festival with the Windsbacher Knabenchor and Freiburger Barockorchester under Ludwig Böhme. Another highlight is Bach’s Christmas Oratorio: under Felix Mildenberger at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, followed by a tour with the Windsbacher Knabenchor and La Folia Barockorchester, including performances at the Berlin Philharmonie and Tonhalle Zurich. At the Bach Festival Leipzig, she will sing with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under Ton Koopman.
This season also marks an intensive collaboration with the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra under Aapo Häkkinen. In the role of Emma, she will perform in concert versions of Antonio Cartellieri’s opera Rübezahl in Helsinki and Budapest. She will also sing Schumann’s Requiem at the Musiikkitalo, as well as C. P. E. Bach’s Passion Cantata in Helsinki and Niederalteich.
Elisabeth Breuer grew up in Haus im Ennstal in Styria and discovered her passion for classical music and singing at an early age. She attended the music-focused Stiftsgymnasium Admont and went on to study music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, where she also began her vocal studies with Elisabeth Batrice.
